Informative. I knew some of the history, I built a ton of 800 and 900MHz LTR systems in the late 80s and early 90s. I work for EFJ now.
It's still able to be distributed I've got a tough book that has a ton of software on it for all radios whether it's Kenwood or Motorola or any other brand it's on there from a guy that sells those on eBay so all of his tough books that he sells completely loaded with shit tons of Radio Service software of for all makes and models ever made of radios and I don't see no license agreement so he's basically sharing freeware and he was never prosecuted for it he should have though and I did report him to eBay but they didn't do anything much and I even tried to reach out to Motorola and all the other manufacturers out there but they didn't seem to care yet they're still hard on to these agreements that you shall not distribute or sell any software that you're licensed to have so I don't get why the hell shit like this keeps happening if they don't want it distributed then there should be something big about it instead of other shit like this it's called copyright

Is EF Johnson still in MN? I worked at a 2 way radio shop in the late 90's. We were a Kenwood and EF Johnson dealer. On mobiles and handhelds (probably 90% of our business) Kenwood was just so much cheaper we quit even quoting EF Johnson units. We did sell a few of your repeaters. Very fine units. Sad to see that you can't buy a EF Johnson radio anymore but glad Kenwood has kept the Viking brand going. I have a ham licence and collect old CB's The pride of my collection is an old Messenger. Still works if you give the tubes time to warm up.

Thanks for the video, I used to work at EFJ in Waseca, MN in the 1980's, it was a great place to work, we were all family and EFJ himself used to walk through the plant after his retirement just to stay connected with his "work family", he was a great man, very nice and down home and very wise of course. I got to shake his hand at least a couple of times I guess and show him what I was doing as part of my job there.
Thank you for sharing your story! It's so great to hear about our founder. We're very proud of our history and our people (past and present) that have got us to where we are today. Keep in touch.
Thanks for the reply and keep up the videos, always great to see what is going on with EFJ today. And yes, Edgar Johnson was a great man and you could tell that right away when he was talking to you and interested in what you were doing and would shake your hand and appreciate what you were doing. I feel very lucky to have talked to him in person while he was still alive and visiting the plant and taking interest in what was going on after his retirement. The Waseca plant was a great place to work and I live about 30 miles or so from there and was lucky to get hired at the time, there was a boom and when I was there I think there were about 1430 employees for a while, there was also plant in Iowa for a while and in Idaho. I got to visit the one in Idaho shortly after they closed down out there.
